Internationalist Books and Students for a Democratic Society, Chapel Hill, have jointly organized a free showing of the documentary Taxi to the Dark Side. In this highly acclaimed (Best Documentary Feature, 2007), but little known film, Alex Gibney (Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room) explores the use of indefinite detention and torture under the Bush administration. Drawing from investigative journalism, congressional reports and interviews, Gibney presents a blistering condemnation of a top down policy of abuse.  At a time of growing acceptance and defense of torture, rendition and assassination, it is highly relevant that we consider what has and what largely hasn’t changed since the Bush administration.
