It’s been a busy week for our big move to Lloyd Street! Early last Friday the renovations crew got to work finishing our beautiful 12’ wood ceiling and building custom shelves for our retail space. After a weekend of hard work, the ceiling is done, and half a dozen shelving units are ready to paint and install. On Monday we’ll be building the next round of shelves. Email if you want to help! We’re also in the market for lumber and primer, if you have any you’d like to donate.
Saturday evening, Piedmont EarthFirst! sponsored a catered vegan supper and movie screening at the new location. The event went beautifully and raised almost $400. Much thanks to all our friends who chipped in to make the event a success!
And… Don’t forget this Sunday we’re serving brunch at the Curryblossom Cafe! Since opening in 2010, Curryblossom has nurtured the sense of community that Chef Vimala Rajendranan created over years serving open meals from her home. They’ve also been one of our most reliable allies at the store, making sure that hungry activists get fed even in the heat of action. The menu this Sunday features South Indian breakfast classics from Vimala’s home state of Kerala, including vegan and gluten-free options. Come early, as this one’s sure to be packed.
Want to learn more about the financial status and business strategy of the Internationalist? Mark your calendar for Sunday, September 21. Staff and members of the Board of Directors will give a special presentation for our Members, followed by a discussion period when you can get answers for all your questions. We know that a fundraising campaign is only as good as the plan it’s funding, so we want you involved! The meeting will be at 2 p.m. in our new location, 101 Lloyd Street in Carrboro.
A number of our supporters have asked for help talking to their friends about the Internationalist. In light of the historic juncture we’re in, we decided to try something new: an online video to show everyone what we’re excited about. No more talking points to memorize — just click the link and sit back! Send us an email and tell us what you think. If our community likes the video as much as we do, expect more to come.
That’s all for now! Thanks to everyone who’s donated online or in person, and stay tuned for more updates!
